And We're Back to School!

Or should I say you're back to school?  I'm just here at the library watching all of our teens come in lugging huge backpacks and already complaining about homework.  That's right--it hasn't even been a week but the teachers here in Ridgewood do not mess around.

Are you ready for school?  If not, here's a list of things you definitely need.
  • Your library card!  Always useful for things like:
    •  Research databases: including everything from World Book Online for your basic encyclopedia needs to EBSCO which can show you the full text of many magazine & scholarly articles (very good for in-depth research).  Then there's my favorite: Novelist, to get book recommendations based on books you like.  Or you can stop by the library and just ask me!  Then you'll need your library card for...
    • ...checking out books.  Yes, some people still use those.  In fact, I hear that some teachers are requiring students to read at least one physical book this year.  Of course, you'll still need your library card to check out our ebooks!
    • Using the computers.  We love it when you sign in to our YA computers--fabulous fully loaded MACs.
    • Let's not forget about DVDs, audiobooks and video games, all available at the library--though not usually necessary for school.
That's the whole list!  Assuming your parents are in charge of buying pencils, pens, backpacks, binders, book sox, calculators, USB keys, folders and all that jazz.  But if you're in need of some cool stuff, I love this list of stylin' back to school gear.
